Mainly used in quilting and topstitching. It easily penetrates through three layers of quilts due to the slim point shape creates particularly small puncture holes and a clean seam pattern. 
These needles have a special taper to the slightly rounded point and are made especially for machine quilting and piecing. The special tapered designs makes it easier for the needle to pass through the fabric helping to prevent skipped stitches.
TIP - Acheive particularly straight seams and even stitches by using  a straight needle plate.

These needles have a flat shank which fit standard domestic machine such as Bernina, Pfaff, Brother, Juki, Singer and Janome.  For the very large special longarm quilting frame machines, check manual to check compatability to flat shank needles.
