Sewing Machine Servicing

Sewing Pattern
Needle and thread of an electric modern sewing machine. Very close up.

Why should I get my machine serviced regularly?

Routine servicing of your sewing machine or overlocker can help prolong it's life and keep it working for longer.

Just like a car, servicing can pick up any issues that are starting to appear, especially as a machine gets older. Spotting these early can help prevent major issues later in a machines life.

How often should I have my machine serviced?

Use machine every day -  service it yearly

Average domestic use -  service every two years.

(Selected brands require services on their machines at regular times to keep the guarantee.)

Sewing machine being repaired

• Split bodywork and strip the machine
• Cleaning throughout the whole machine (not just the bobbin area)
• Oiling the whole machine (not just the bobbin area)
• Reset / check all timing points
• Resetting tension
• Assembling and testing

Plus where applicable
· Firmware/software updates

· Resetting stitch counter
· Resetting service programme
