Getting to the nitty gritty of understanding the basic of a sewing machine will give you the foundations from which to build and sew projects.
Jenny, your tutor, will show and explain the how and why, which will help spring board you on your sewing adventure.
Workshop Covers |
- Threading- avoiding pitfalls + time is built in for you to practise threading - Tensions- should I adjust? and when. - Needles - what to use when and explain different types and sizes - Stitch width and length - What is it, when to adjust and why - Seaming - how to sew a straight seam every time - Overcasting - how to neaten the raw edges of fabric using overcast foot (or without, if your machine doesn’t have one) - Buttonhole - how to work out the right size and sew using buttonhole foot (if you have with your machine) - Blind hem stitch - how to fold fabric to sew an invisible hem that can be used on garments and curtains - Calico fabrics - included - to create samples that can be written on, to go with the workshop notes. A permanent reference for you when at home to refer back to. - Workshop Notes - covering the workshop, with space for your own notes of settings or adjustments. |

Your Sewing Machine -
Must be in operational working order. (This means the machine must be able to sew ) – if purchased second hand or given a non new machine, it is recommended that it is serviced prior to attending. Make e sure to bring foot control pedal / power lead / manual and accessories for the machine .
