Ideal for inserting thick home decorating piping into seams or where ever you'd like to add a finishing touch. The grand piping foot is used to cover large cords with fabric for speciality piping and insert the piping into seams or edges for a tailored finish.

The trim is sewn between the two layers of fabric in one step. You can also create your own piping for a custom finish. This foot can be snapped on to the right or left of the needle which makes it possible to both create and sew piping into the seam and to beautifully topstitch along the piping.

To make piping for your fabric:-

  1. Attach the foot and engage the IDT system.
  2. Cut fabric, either on the bias or crosswise grain, wide enough to cover the piping and seam allowances.
  3. Lay the cord on the wrong side of the fabric and wrap the fabric over the cord.
  4. Place the fabric and cord under the foot with the cord to the left of the foot.
  5. Select a straight stitch 2.5 mm stitch length. Move the needle position to the left. Sew
  6. Use your new piping in projects following the steps above.

TIP: When you sew this piping into a project, adjust the needle position so it stitches one setting closer to the cord, to hide the first stitching.

To stitch piping into a seam:-

  1. Attach the foot and engage the IDT system
  2. Select straight stitch, length 2.5 mm
  3. Place the piping on the right side fo fabric - matching raw edges. Position under the foot with the piping to the left of the foot.
  4. Add a second piece of fabric on top so right sides are together and piping sandwiched between the layers.
  5. Position under the foot with the piping to the left of the foot.
  6. Sew.

TIP: Clip the seam allowances around curves and at corners to reduce bulk and allow the seams to lay flat.

Topstitching:-

  1. Attach foot to the left of the needle and engage the IDT system.
  2. Open the seam and fold so the piping is along the fabric edge. Press.
  3. Sew a row of topstitching to the left of the seam line.
